Brampton Museum launches Adult Art and Craft Classes

Brampton Museum is launching a series of arts and craft classes for adults to develop their creative skills.

The programme begins in March with four textile workshops, led by Deborah Davis, where participants will be able to learn useful sewing skills and create embroidered pictures and notebook covers.

Visitors will also learn how to do visible mending on their own clothes using embroidery and other handy sewing techniques.

In May, artist Charles Walker will lead a four-week life drawing class, where people can learn how to draw live human models using pencil, charcoal and chalk.

Local artist, Ruth Allen, will be ‘Taking the line on a journey’ in June and July, which will see visitors learn how to illustrate stunning architecture with line drawings.

During this six-week course, participants will create a concertina card, a canvas with stitching, printed cards and a mounted line drawing focusing on mid-century design and the world of botany.

The courses, taking place throughout spring and summer, are suitable for all abilities.

Craig Skelding, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Heritage, said: “We want the museum to become a hub for all sorts of creative activities, where people of all ages can get involved, learn new skills and enjoy themselves.

“Arts and craft is really good for mindfulness and self-expression and these classes will be a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills.”
